I am 16 years old and I am about to buy a car from a bud, but I don't have license, and I have no plans of getting on since insurance rates and all that crap are through the roof.
Can my mom legally stop me?

Of course she can, and should. At 16 you can't enter into financial dealings with your friends. She has both a right and obligation to see to your welfare, and driving an uninsured vehicle with no license is something very dangerous to your health and well being.
The law is quite specific, you can start the driving process in most states at 16 with parental permission. You can't drive without a license and insurance. Try it, get caught, and you will have both a fine and no chance of getting a license until you are at least 18.
Not to mention that you can't register a car to get tags without insurance, and you can't get insurance without a license. |

ummm. yeah... and so can the cops. they can send you to juvie... fine your mom, fine you. ban you from driving for a span of time... legally, without her signature, you aren't even old enough to buy a car... and what happens when you get in an accident and hurt some kid? who's going to pay? that's what insurance is for.

Since you're a minor, your mom is legally responsible for everything you do. If you cause an accident causing property damage and/or injury, she has to pay for it since you don't plan on being insured. I don't think this is a good idea. As far as legally stopping you... I guess she can call police if she's really against you driving illegally. |

Maybe she can not but the police sure can and with that attitude I sure hope they do real quick. And if you make a mistake and hit my car you will never see daylight again. |

She can report you to the local authorities, then the car can be impounded and you won't be able to get a license until your 21.
Insurance is expensive for everyone not just you.
