As long as you a licensed, and the car is insured, if you have their permission you can drive it even if they are not in the car

Depends on the insurance coverage your friend has. Age is also a factor. Some companies cover anyone who drives the car. Others have age requirements such as 25 years old for anyone other than the insured that drives the vehicle. Doesn't matter if your friend is in the car or not.

Ken P
Yes as long as the car has insurance, and the driver has a license.

In CALIF. there are age and license restrictions on the front seat passenger. Also time of day or night is important with a licensed driver in the passenger seat and the reason for the trip in the first place. Best check with your friend's insurance Co. and read the details about what IS and what IS NOT covered by their insurance policy. CALIF. also has strict rules about the driver of the friend's car, his or her age, and where they received their driver training. The insurance companies don't want any unsupervised Saturday night drag races to or from any kind of a beer bash.

Kathy S
Probably not, check with the insurance company. They all have different rules.

Insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver. As long as you have your friend's permission to operate the vehicle (and are not specifically excluded on their policy) the insurance remains valid and in full force whether they're in the car with you or not.

if the vehicle has full coverage and the person driving is not on the "cannot drive this car list" and has a valid permit to drive it is ok...

NO, BECAUSE THE INSURANCE FOR THAT VEHICLE COVERS ONLY THE REGISTERED OWNER AND ANY OTHER DRIVER THAT ARE LISTED ON THAT POLICY.

In my experience with three different insurance companies regarding liability insurance, if you are insured you can drive your friends car and you will be insured for any liability problems. as far as comprehensive insurance, as in damage to your friends car i am not sure on that.

crickette
yep they can drive it alright , but they wont be covered on your insurance if the friends name is not on the policy , so dont get in an accident while the friend of the friend is driving if he/she isnt on the insurance.
