this is my first car and i need to buy a new tax disc but as its 13th july i heard that it runs from the beginning of the month.
if i buy it at the post office or online now, when will it start >not til 1st august> or on the date i buy it?

that does seem like a rip off, that is silly, i dont see why it cant just run from the date u buy it?

If you buy it now it will run from the 1st of July. It doesnt matter where it is bought, it will still run from then. |

when you go online it does all the work for you
i did my tax online on thursday as mine exires on 31/07 so they start the new one on 01/08
if your car is not taxed at all you will end up paying for the full month even though you only used half of it |

if you get it today, you will lose 12 days on it as they will back date it to the 1st of the month. the only other option is to tax it from the 1st aug. but the car will need to be off the road until then with a sorn declaration. |

it will be run to the end of July 2009 as that is how they come to the post office pre printed. |

tax discs run from the first day of the month for either 6 or 12 months, if you buy it now you will have to pay from the 1st of july or you will have to wait till about the 28th of this month to get one starting in august. |

always runs out at the end of a month so starts from the first of the month in which you buy it. So buy it on the 14th july and unless you state you want it to run from the 1st August it will run from the 1st July and expire at the end of December or June next year, depending whether you buy 6 or 12 momths disc... So if you want to use vehicle straight away you in effect will lose 2 weeks usage. |

1st of July and yes it is a rip off, legalised mugging by the government ( this and the last and the next ) It's the same if you cash one in you only get a return for full months. |
