ok i have my drivers permit, got it last week...ive seemed to misplace the reciept (the one with my picture)...im just wonderin if i need that. i already have a CA ID card and if i can go get another copy of that picture

do i need it to take my drivers test

Yes you need it, you cannot legally drive without your permit or license physically with you. And you cannot use a non-driving ID in lieu of your permit if asked to produce your permit during a traffic stop.

You can get a replacement issued for a small fee. Since walking into a CA DMV without an appointment to get something so simple takes a long time to do, call the nearest office & see if you can set an appointment so you can get it re-issued quicker.
