Can ticket for rear ending unregistered vehicle be challenged and won?

My friend rear ended an expired registration for over year who received citation, she also received citation for failure to use due care. Can she fight ticket. Should cop have given her ticket.

yes, the cop should give her a ticket.
whenever someone rear ends somebody, its automatically their fault. it doesnt matter wether or not the other person's tag is expired or not. she can try to fight the ticket but that will just be a waste of time.

your friend got a ticket for the accident, not because of the other persons tag so tell your friend to just save his or herself sometime and pay the ticket

Rear ending someone is a ticketable offense and has nothing to do with the vehicle she hits being registered or not. The cop was just lucky to get the opportunity to write up two offenses in one situation.

Otherwise, what's to stop people from just ramming in vehicles because they noticed their license tabs are not up to date.

It doesn't matter if the vehicle was unregistered or had current tags. Your friend rear-ended another vehicle. Are you saying she wouldn't have rear-ended the car if it was legally registered? 99.9% of the time the driver who rear-ends the vehicle in front of them receives the citation. Your friend was either following too close or not paying attention, or both.
