Can you be forced to pay the insurance company for the other person's damages if you are found at fault? If so, how would they do it? Can they force a bum with no money or job to pay for a ridiculous amount?

Your insurance company should have you covered whether you are at fault or not. If you exceed their coverage in damages then the person can go after you, usually with the help of their insurance company. If you don’t have any income they can’t do anything to you, it’s not a crime where you can go to jail. If you do have a job or ever get a job they can garnish wages. So they can come after you years later. |

how would you feel if it was the other way around?
if you have insurance, they will handle and pay what is owed. if no insurance, then expect the other company to pay and then go after you personally either by a payment plan, or they will go after any assets you own or garnish your wages.
as for a bum with no money, will have a judgment and if ever gets a job, hits the lottery, guess what, they will 1st in line to collect. |
