Can you give me some basic information on AAA Roadside Assistance?

If I were to sign up for an AAA membership would I receive roadside assistance if I were in another state aside from the one I live in?

How soon after I purchase the membership online is it effective? Do they give me a confirmation page with my account number on it that I can use immediately or do I have to wait to be issued a card in the mail?

Any info you can provide would be great!

Yes, but if they couldn't fix your car, they would tow it to the nearest garage or dealership -- they won't tow it all the way to your home state. Even if you get AAA Plus, they will only tow you a certain distance for free. So if you live in Florida, travel by car to California, don't expect to be towed all the way back to Florida if you break down anywhere along the way.

I've had AAA for years and I think it's worth it. I get maps and tour books all the time. I also use the discounts you get for oil changes and car washes around town.

The ONLY complaint I have is it sometimes takes an hour for them to send help if you need a jumpstart or tire change and you call during a very busy time of day.

You'll get a membership number as soon as you sign up and it takes a few days to get the plastic card. To get service, all you need is that number.

yes, immediately, they give you a number. Make sure to buy the package that comes with the most towing mileage (~$100 a year)

If you join AAA on line or on the phone. as soon as your check clears you are a member. it makes no difference what state your in if you have trouble they will come out and help you from a flat tire to out of Gas.

AAA roadside assistance is great, it cost more than some others but if you need them it is worth it. Yes they have a 1800 number you can call and you are covered throughout the US. Just remember that they have mileage restrictions, say 20 miles for free then you have to pay the additional fees. Call them up and ask them about their plans.
Maybe your insurance company or bank has a roadside assistance program you can check into.

I had AAA roadside for a time but now have it through my AT&T cell phone plan. It only cost around $3.00 a month and works well for me. It is much cheaper than AAA.
oh you can get roadside assistance through all the major cell phone providers.

All I know is that they use AAA batteries. There's a bunny playing a drum and he brings them.
It's really a great service.
