Depends on the post office, i bought a car on the 19/1/08 and had a 7 day free insurance cover, the company emailed the certificate over to me and i went to the post office and taxed the car frfom the 1st jan with that no problem, if you do it online make sure you have the full log book not just the new keepers section or the tax disc could be sent to the previous keeper |

no but you can tax it online or by phone and the dvla will check your insurane against a database |

Only originals at the Post Office. Renew it online, as it checks for Insurance and MOT without the need for you to find the relevant documentation. |

You have to produce originals to be able to do it over the counter, but you can tax your vehicle on line and these documents are automatically checked for their authenticity. |
