if it was the other person's fault then the other person's insurance will cover your loses. If the other person is not at fault then they can sue for damages caused to their car and your cousin will be held financially responsible to fix their car and his as well. Insurance is expensive but when accidents happen it gets you back on the road quickly. |

The uninsured driver generally finds himself/herself in up to their ears with all kinds of legal problems! It really doesn't matter at this point who's fault it was, the real deal is your relatives car should not have been on a highway in the first place! I don't live in Ohio but I can say for certainty that your relative is in a serious situation and will probably bare the lions share of expenses! |

you learn a hard expensive lesson and you get insurance on the next car. hope this one was paid for. |

Nope. You're out of luck. Who do you think is going to pay for another car?????That's why people buy insurance. In California you'd be lucky if you were'nt fined too. But if someone crashed into him, the other driver's insurance should pay for the damage. |

The other party is liable - so they have to fix the vehicle or write a check for a new one.
If they have insurance, file a claim. If they do not have insurance, sue them. Backlash to suing them, is that you might get fined too for allowing your brother to drive an uninsured vehcile. |

There will be no damages paid for his car because he was driving around uninsured. Although the other party was found at fault and damaged another person's car, the other insurance company will not pay for something your cousin didn't bother to cover himself. It's a tough lesson to learn, but not only is it illegal to drive without insurance, you also put yourself at a very high risk for loosing a lot of money as you will not be compensated for your loss. If there were injuries involved, the other person's insurer would probably pay the medical bills, but not the car. Your cousin will be ticketed for driving without insurance and state will suspend his license. |

How difficult is it to understand that "you need to have insurance on your car" before you drive.
Irrespective of who's fault it is, you friend was driving when he should not have been (illegally driving that is) and he will be responsible for almost all the damages. |

Who doesn't have insurance- your cousin or the other person?
If it's your cousin then he can file a claim with the other person's insurance, and still get paid for damages.
If the other car doesn't have insurance then your cousin should file a claim either under his collision coverage or see if uninsured motorist property damage coverage exists on his policy that would apply. If neither, then your cousin would have to sue the other person. |
