Car Damage By Someone We Know, But Didint Know He Was Doing It At The Time!?

Ok well... my other half was in a position where he had to take his area manager out with him for the day in OUR car! ... This was fine, not a problem at all in fact until the end of the day when we noticed that there was lots of scratches (back to the metal) on the bottom of the door frame! (the morning before this happened we were out there polishing the car so that it was prestine... the car is an '07 new toyota?... before the day in question happened there was no marks at all on the frame... now there is about 10 noticeable marks!... My other half has followed this through, but the man in question is denying that he did it at all... now we can appreciate the fact he didnt do it on purpose, but why should we be out of pocket for something that someone else did? Who is responsible for forking out for this? HHHHHEEEELLLLLPPPPPP please :) Additional Details ** We know for a fact the scratches were done by him, the go from inside to out of the car and he wears heavy metal plates on the bottom of his shoes to stop the wear** Thanks for all your answers so far!

sorry unless the culprit owns up, you will have to pay,
your in a 'catch 22' situation, taking the person to court will cost you money because it will be a 'he say, you say ' situation.
I hope the person owns up and pays for the damage. |

One of the risks involved in carrying passengers who are not considerate with your gear. You can make a civil claim, but ,i would not advise it. My advice is to stick anti scratch pads in those areas. |

What evidence do you have that he did it. You must have evidence before you can proceed with anything. |

He will never confess to it..so my advice to you is to repair it yourself, and in the future,he never sits in your car again. |

I'd grin and bear it. You'll never prove your case and, perhaps more importantly, is it worth antagonising the area manager? |

So.. Far.. Gone...
 |
ouch... tough spot.
He is responsible. IMO. If you can honestly remember them not being there the day before.
You know there will be repercussions. So. grin and bare it. Are these scratches worth him getting black listed?
I know its a new car... but aren't we all mad about our first scratch? 3 years from now it'll be all forgotten.. plus. it won't go to the grave with you... you'll prolly trade it in neways. |

You have just answered the question. When you say you appreciate the fact that he didn't do it on purpose. If he didn't know he done it why on earth would he own up to something he believes he did not do. I think you pay. |
