Car Insurance different address than car registered address?

Hi,
I have insured my car on my friend's address because his postcode turns out to be very cheap for my premiums. My car and Driving Licence are registered on my home address but when I buy insurance on my home address it goes double. Do you think insuring my car on different address is wrong? What if I get my car registered on to my friends address same as my insurance policy? Would that be safe and legal? Please help me in clearing the confusion and doubt.

The insurance premium is higher in your postcode for the simple reason that there are a higher number of claims emanating from that area. When you fill in a proposal form it asks you where the vehicle will be garaged overnight. If you register the car using your friends address you will also be committing fraud as the address on the V5 must be that of the registered keeper and that is not your address.

No, unless you live at the address you gave the insurance company, and garage your car there, what you have done is fraud, and will be reason for them to drop you when they find out.

Move, or pay the price.

It could cause problems. If the Police needed identification after an accident, your insurance co will be on the Police computer, but will show a different address to the DVLA data. This could cause difficulty.
If you let your insurance co know that the car is kept at a different address that should stop any Police confusion.
But they might not allow this, but only by contacting your insurance co will you find out if it's allowed.

me.
Well if something happened to your car outside of your own property, and for whatever reason you had to call the police (I've had to do this a couple of times recently so it's not that uncommon), then your insurance claim would not be valid because it's not kept at the address you told the insurance company it was.

Unless you're planning on keeping your car at your friends property, I wouldn't even try it.

no your supposed to insure it in the state you live in , mine doubled that way , you can try and get away with it , but in case of accident and they investigate it youll be in some trouble

Where is the car being kept? Friend's address? Thought not, this is making your insurance void in way.

Vikrant G, There are tons of sites where you can get a free insurance quote. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html It only takes about 5 minutes to do.

. Do you think insuring my car on different address is wrong?

YES because you have not told the truth! if your car is stolen from your friends address and the insurer finds out thats not where you live/registered to they wont pay!!

this is only legal if the car is actually kept at that property just say your car was stolen from outside your house over night it is fraud to claim it was else where

Bear in mind insurers don't like paying claims out and you are giving them information that is not correct it is called fronting and your insurers would be very reluctant to pay out.

When you take out insurance you must disclose relevant information, your address is very relevant as this is one part amongst many others that allows the insurer to assess exposure to risk.

Depends on what you have told the insurance company.
If you have told them that is where you live then it is illegal. If you have told them that is where the car is kept and you keep it at your house, that is illegal. However, if you have told them where you live and you keep it at the other address then that is the correct thing to do.
If you have lied to get cheaper insurance then it is invalid and you may as well not have any insurance. SHAME ON YOU!!

Although what your doing is actually fraud and by keeping the car registered at your house and insured at a different address your going to get caught. What you need to do is get a V62 form and change the registered address to your friends as well. That way when they check there will be no difference in the details as insurance companies have access to DVLA records. I've had my car insured at my mums for years as my premiums drop by about 40% and have also claimed on the insurance in that time and never had a problem and the only time it may cause you grief is if the car is stolen and they will ask why it was not outside the registered property.
