I have 2 cars insured with Direct Line. My husband is a named driver on both policies and is also building up his no claims in his own right. I get a discount for insuring 2 cars with them and I pay monthly. Both cars are fully comprehensive and around 10 years old and I pay about £42 a month for both of them which I think is quite reasonable. |

If the comparison sites are giving you quotes *double* what you've got - also try http://www.moneysupermarket.com and http://www.gocompare.com - then it sounds like your quote is probably a good deal!
For me, the best was eSure http://www.esure.com ... but there's no reason to believe they'd be good for you too.
It would depend where you live, your driving record, and on loads of other factors - likely to be a lot different to everyone else here.
Shopping around is dull - putting in your details over and over - but it's very likely to be worth the time.
Here are a few other tips that might help to bring down your quote:
1. See if getting an experienced driver to go on your policy as a named driver (but not to 'front' the policy for you, with you as a named driver) will bring down your quote. Sometimes this works - no idea why.
2. Try to get a car with an alarm & immobiliser, and slap as many other security devices as you can on it, like an approved steering wheel bar or cover. If you can, keep it in a locked garage overnight.
3. If possible, declare a limited mileage, like 5,000 a year instead of the average 10,000 - but make sure you don't exceed it!
Finally, see if you can play a couple of the best insurers for you off against each other, taking one's best offer to the other. Finally offer to 'buy right now' from them for a further 'clincher' discount once one won't go any lower.

Hope this helps - good luck! |

I was with with Tesco last year but their renewal just came through with a silly price on it, check out esure, I got a much better deal with them, over £100 cheaper. |

I work for an insurance company. I won't tell you which one, just some good advise. Don't go for the cheapest without checking out what cover they offer and whether it's sufficient for your needs. Because change happenz! |

Both my cars are with swiftcover.com
I can use my NCB on BOTH cars (that's one of their major perks) which really helps keep the price low. I pay £19 a month for one car and £16 a month for the other (I'm 25)
They're completely online and you get a username & password to log in to your account where you can download your own insurance certificate if you want. I don't bother.
HOWEVER the down side is if you renew your car tax by going to the post office they might not accept the certificate if it looks as though it was printed out at home.
Hence I renew my car tax online all the time - which is ridiculously easy to do.
As mentioned previously, www.confused.com is a brilliant site which does all the work for you. I use it all the time and this is how I came across swiftcover.
Good luck hunting. |

Try to get estimates from good well known companies with good coverage that meets your needs! Good Luck! And make sure you are covered right up until you decide whether to stay or leave the co. that you are now with. |

Well, my son is in the U.K. and insures his car with Kwik Fit, having said that, Tesco's offer quite good rates too.
It's always worth checking what is offered on your policy....if you rely on your car on a day to day basis, then its worth checking for a company that offers a courtesy car....Direct Line, though appearing to be cheap, do not offer a replacement car if yours is off the road for any length of time. |

Whatever your insurance company offer for renewal, complain. They always reduce the renewal if you ask them to |

Get on usmitch.com they'll tell you which companies are cheapest and what the offer. I went with kwik fit (3rd cheapest) because they offered a free MOT (mine was due for renewal) lol |
