I am looking to buy my Daughter a small car, she is 18, what is the ideal car for me to buy, as insurance is the problem the cheapest we can find is £800 for a KA, valued at £500, thanks

That actually sounds a reasonable price for a first time driver. My son paid £1,200 insurance for his Vauxhall Corsa, which cost £600. I have to say though, don't be tempted to insure it in your name with her as named driver. This is called fronting and it is illegal. Its not a very well known fact, but it should be something parents are aware of. |

If you are considering buying a KA make sure you have a good look round it as they can be real rust buckets friend of mine bought one with a full mot for her daughter and brought it to work for me to give it a once over its was in appalling condition she took it back and got a full refund |

well that don't sound that bad as i ave a tigra and i am 24 nearly 25 and my insurance in nearly 700 and ma car only cost 550
so that's cheap really
my mate is 18 and she did a quote for a 1.1 fiesta and that's wat she got 800
so sounds ryt cant c u getting it any cheaper really xx |

Well, the less litres, horsepower, sportness of the car, the less the insurance will be. You need to make sure it's a small car and I think KA is small enough, just try different insurances, have you tried compare market site? It's really good.
My mate is 18 and he's got a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Sport, he pays 500-600 pounds for insurance, and boguht the car for 1,000 pounds.

My brother is 16 and as a part time drive on my small car we'll be paying $600 USD more a year. (Sorry I don't know the conversion scale!) Does your policy do good student and good driver discounts? Those really helped me out all through high school and college.
As for the type of car something a couple of years old and that is small with air bags, seat belts, and anti-lock brakes will lower the insurance price significantly. |

Insurance may not be your biggest expense - buying a better quality & more reliable car like a Nissan Micra may well cost the same or less to insure & also be cheaper on maintenance & repairs. |
