Car Insurance for a 17 year old ? Rough price needed.?

Hi,
My son is 17 in a couple of months, need a rough guess on how much insurance will be on a low groupage car (peugeot 106 1.0 etc). He'll be provisional but will have his mother on the insurance also.
We're in Teesside so not out in the sticks but not a city postcode.
Any rough ideas will be great.

My 17 year old sister has a 5 year old Micra with my mum on the insurance, (who has been driving since 1972 and has never made a claim) and churchill wanted about £1200 a year, they do live in a bit of a dodgy area mind you and the car is not kept in a garage. |

Try confused.com. If Mum is the main policy holder put son on as additional driver - see what comes up. Obviously he can't drive without Mum as he's a learner. When he passes his test you can still put him on Mums insurance, but Mum must be the main driver,[illegal if she's not] best if he starts saving now for his own insurance, which will be very high. We put learner son on ours and it was £15-00 a month more. When he passed his test, he took out his own on a G Reg 1600cc Sirocco and it's £133-00 a month as he's only 19. I believe it goes down after either 21 or 25. It also becomes cheaper the longer you own the same vehicle also the amount of mileage covered in a year. |

The best way to get a rough price is to look at http://www.autotrader.com and find the type car you are thinking of getting. Use the registration number from the photos and fill out online insurance quote forms such as http://www.directline.com/ or http://www.confused.com/.
Insurance quotes vary so much according to postcode. I once moved 5 to an area 10 minutes walk from my old address and the insurance went up £100 even though I now had off road parking and a garage! |

Go on the web. try AA website.....Leave mother off it and let him go for his own to stack up N.C.B. discount. A rough price would be bout £2500...............£3500 |

Over 12 years ago, I was on my parents insurance for a car that was 10 years old. I believe it was something like 1550.00 a year and that was considered cheap. So I'm thinking you might be paying a couple thousand a year for your son, unless you can talk them down. Saying things like just driving on sundays to church or not really driving much at all and only with you and your wife in the car. That might keep it cheap. |
