Is there such a thing as insuring yourself on a car for only a week or even 1 day?

Levi - I need to go to Heathrow and pick my dad, mum, bro and sis up and they will have at least 4 suitcases which will not fit in my car, but it would easily fit in my dad's jeep.
Should i then phone up his insurance company and ask to be a named driver on his policy for a day/week?
I'm only 19 and i heard you had to be 21 or over.

To the person above what a pile of crap. U can't just break cover for a month then have it the next month..thats known as defaultin. The only way that wud happen, if they knew sum1 that worked in insurance and really they were payin for the month they didnt pay along with the next months.
I used to work in insurance..this can not happen. Unless u know the person and are a named driver on their insurance. If u decide to step into any car you have third party cover (if you have insurance in the first place) unless otherwise stated. Why do u need insured for a day or a week? Is it to test drive a car or is ur current car gettin fixed i dont understand this! Anyways if u really need insurance the best thing is to take a fully policy out and cancel it when u dont need it anymore.. i.e ive sold the car, im moving away..etc.

Ring up his insurance company and see how much it is to be added on..dependin who his insurer is they make not add u on..coz in sum cases its over 25's. If they dont allow u to be added on..ring ur own insurance and say u want to do a temporary change of vehicle give the details..say when u want it on frm for example.. 8am on the 1st April until 5pm that day or until 8am on the 3rd of april. In most cases they dont charge u to do this unless ur change is for more than 6days! |

no sure, but i do remember a few years ago my friend had a policy where he would pay monthly, if there was a month he couldn't afford the premium he wouldn't be insured for that month but continue with the same policy the next month when he could afford to pay it.
Sorry I can't remember who he was insured with but I hope it helps you in some way. |

why bother..........just rent a car for a week or a month or whatever period you need it for.........it'll be WAY WAY CHEAPER THAT WAY............ |

Yes that is not a problem for most insurance companies - you age may be a problem though.
I have been added to a number of friends and relatives insurance for a short period. Often it only costs a couple of quid if anything.
There are also companies who will do short term insurance policies, these tend to cost more than adding you to an existing policy. |
