Car Insurance with Drivers Permit?

I just turned 16 years old and currently have my drivers permit. The vehicles are insured by Liberty Mutual financial group and under my parent’s names. My questions are: Are the cars still insured even though the insurance policy is not in my name? If I get into an accident; are both vehicles involved covered? Should I notify the insurance company to let them know I will also be driving the vehicles? Thank You!

While under your permit, the licensed driver that is supervising you is responsible & their insurance will cover anything that may happen.

Once you get your license, your parents will need to call their insurance agent to add you as an additional driver to their policy.

Your parents should call the Insurance Company and add you as a
new youthful driver. Insurance always follows the car, so for now the cars are covered but you are not. So if you get in an accident diving by yourself, before you are added to your parents policy.and your parents allowed you to drive, they will be breaking the insurance requirement law as well.
The rates for insuring you could be less, if there are more number of drivers than cars,because you would be considered as a :Part Time" driver.

You won't get into an accident, because with a permit you'll never be alone, and the person in the front seat will be close enough to take over to keep you from having an accident. You won't need to be on the policy until you have a license and can drive alone.

You should check the details of your parents policy. Unless you are a named driver you are unlikely to be covered fully comprehensive. Usually only third party cover applies.
