Recently my dad has given me his car; he gave me all the documents to the car except the title. How would i go about getting the title to the car from him, does he have to mail it to me, or is there some other way. Oh and Im just 16 so...yea i pretty much dont know what to do in this situation lol.

The question is..did he give you the car to use or to officially own? If to own..does your state allow a 16yr old to own a car? If so, just ask him to sign over his title. Just a consideration..If he retains the title and the car is registered to him..It may be better for you..Insurance for a teen driver can be mucho expensive. |

A minor can't be a title holder, so I wouldn't worry about it until you turn 18. At that point, if he has the title, he should sign it over to you. If he doesn't have it you can get a form from the DMV and pay $25 to get a new title. |

Depending on the state you live in and if the car is paid off, he may not have the title. Some states hold the title, and often the car gets titled in the name of the financing company. Find out about the title from your dad, and then fill out the appropriate paper work to have the title transfered into your name. |

Your dad must sign over title to you. You then take title to the DMV for processing. They will then mail you the new title in your name. You will also have to pay a tag fee.
At your age it might be better to leave it in his name and stay on his insurance. |

then take to the dmv to get in your name

If the title was lost, then he'll have to write you a bill of sale or go to the D.M.V. to fill out a lease of liability. once all that is done the D.M.V. will issue a new title for the vehicle. |

are you planing on registering the car in your own name?If so you will need the signed title in your hand at the time of registration.He needs to give it to you in person or by mail,if the title is lost he can go to DMV and request a duplicate by filling out a statement of facts explaining that the original has been lost.
For Insurance purposes its better to keep it in his name. |

If by chance he lost the title he can get a replacement by talking o is congressman. He will need the VIN number, at that point after receiving it he can sign it over to you |
