Car accident...what should I do? I don't want insurance to get involved... help!?

today I got into my first accident. I'm 18 and on my parents insurance. I told the lady that we could go figure out the cost to fix her car and it ended up being a little over $1100. It wasn't a big accident. I was backing up and she came out of nowhere so my back bumper has a big dent and her back side has a little tiny dent a bunch of scratches and supposedly her tire got damaged too. So I don't want my insurance to get involved but how much would my premium end up going up and such. I have never been in an accident or have gotten a ticket. Additional Details she go my name and number and liscence number but not the insurance number. I'm in Georgia and the police have not been notified. It was only car damage. It was a light hit too. The only reason the estimate to fix her car is so high is because she wanted to go to her dealership and 4 different parts need to be switched because there's slight marks on all of them.

My son is 18 and had an accident. His insurance went up about 30%. :(
Please beware.... if she even CALLS her insurance company, *your* insurance co will find out and your premiums will go up. Yes, it's true... your premiums will go up even if they don't pay to repair the damages.
We were going to pay to have the lady's (that my son hit) car fixed - it was $800. She called her insurance co just to let them know what had happened..... our insurance co called 2 hours later. They are all networked together.
If she's contacted her insurance company, you might as well let them pay to fix her car.
Good Luck! |

If you don't want insurance involved, pay for her damage. It would also be a good idea to get an attorney to draw up a release for her to sign, absolving you of any more financial responsibility for her vehicle damage, and, more importantly, for any injuries. |

You pay for the damage, no insurance involvement. |

I guess you handled this problem well
You can easily check how much your quotes would increase in internet, for example here: http://carinsurance.deep-ice.com
It is cheaper to repair it by yourself. |

Sorry to hear about your accident. Thankfully it was minor. If you have already exchanged insurance information, it's possible that the other driver already reported it either to her agent or to your insurance carrier. Depending fault, and it appears to be yours, sorry to say, you or your carrier would be responsible for the repairs. If you pay for it out of pocket, I don't know what the insurance company will do about your rates, even if they don't have to pay. It really depends on the insurance carrier and the state you live in, and if a police report was completed. |

did she get your insurance info already? did she take down your name & address? phone number? If I was her, i wouldn't worry about what you want and i'd file a claim. however, the police will need a report. |

States can vary; I'm in Texas.
If you are found at-fault (or liable) for an accident, and the damages are over $1000, this will result in you getting a surcharge on your policy. It will increase the liability, PIP, collision, and uninsured motorist sections of your policy by 10%.
The surcharge is normally added to the policy at the renewal following the accident. From that time, it will remain on the policy for three full years. |
