Car insurance, it makes me think why bother.?

Last year a neighbour crashed his car into my drive, damaging the railings, lucky my car was not there at the time and no one was hurt.
He was charged as he had no insurance.
I got a letter from the Police last week stating that he got 6 points and was fined £500.0.
My car insurance is now up for renewal and I was quoted £600.0, obiviously I'm gonna have to get insured, but it does make me think why bother, what do you think???
Additional Details
My car or insurance has nothing to do with the accident,it just pees me off that his fine was less than having car insurance. (wheres the lesson learnt??)

I totally agree with you,I have been driving for 40 years and have always been up to date with tax, test certificate and insurance. There must be thousands driving about without one or all of these and getting away with it.A far more appropriate punishment would have been an automatic 5 year ban.We are all paying more on our insurance due to criminals like him!

At least people with no insurance now get their vehicle seized on the spot.
I had a head on with an uninsured loser 6 years ago and I had to claim from the uninsured drivers pool.
My insurance went up as this accident was classed as my fault as he had no insurance!!!!!!!!! It's a scam!

I understand what you are saying.
It seems to me that a lot of people do things legally and by the book whereas a few, getting larger, ignore the law on a regular basis.
The law is an *** and offenders regularly get off relatively lightly.
This does make on think why bother but I think that if it is within your means to pay, then pay. If you cant afford to insure a car then don't have a car.

Why on earth are they charging you £600? You must be a hell of a risk!

You should have insurance. An accident could cost an awful lot more than £500 and you could end up in jail for not having any.

Yes. I know what you mean. At least, in a lot of places they now sieze uninsured cars. And perhaps it's cheaper than us all having to pay to keep the buggers in prison.

Car insurance in this country is a joke, it`s legalised theft.
Someone wants to look into this biggest scam in the UK.
I had to sell my car at the start of 1995 after a bad accident at work - the two were not related.
Anyway my insurance at that time was pretty cheap for 100% comp & maximum no-claims.
I can understand the complaints of all drivers who are involved in an accident that is not their fault. They get stung if the other party is not insured, which is wrong.
These days uninsured cars are removed and crushed, but that does not help the unfortunate insured drivers.

if you have legal assistance on your car insurance policy use that to claim any losses from him, if you don't have legal assistance then use a no win no fee solicitor who will try to claim losses from him.

I have away shad insurance but I understand why some people cannot afford it,
The rates are higher than ever, even for a 10 year old car. I have 2 friends that drive without insurance because they have no money left after paying there bills and getting food.

It's not his fault, he works in USA so he dont make any $$$
He is white so that should explain it all.

xx glad to be ere xx
u say that yr car woz not on the drive n yr car woz not damage so y did u claim on yr car n not yr home insure ? buildin 1
