as an unmarried single male, how do i get a car insurance agency to lower prices? it's completely unreasonable that for a person that has NOT proven to be a "High risk" driver to pay incredible amounts.

you don't get them to lower prices but you shop around till you find someone with a lower price. http://www.moneysavecenter.com is one such comparison site that helped me but google is out there for you to find more.
As per "proving", the way it works is you have to prove that you are NOT a high risk, this is done by giving them a paper from your old carrier that states how many years you drove without having had an accident, AKA no claim bonus.
Also it depends on the car you drive, the place you live, the policy that you want to purchase.
I pay next to nothing for my insurance and find it very fair that it should be so. |

Yes, I agree. But I don't know your age, accident/ticket history, etc. I think it's still too high though.

Car insurance companies determine their rates using statistics. The statistics say that young, single males get into the most car accidents. After you have been driving for a few years and taken defensive driving, your rates will begin to drop.
Edit: Insurance is not a scam. It is designed to protect you incase of an emergency. If you get into a car accident and the other driver is not insured and does not have the ability to pay, you are stuck with the bills. Or if the accident is your fault, you may end up paying thousands. very few people have the savings to be able to pay those amounts. If you are one of the few, you don't need insurance. |

If you think prices are unfair, shop around.
I personally pay more for AAA insurance, because I don't count on insurance to be cheap, I count on it to protect me if I'm in an accident.
AAA takes care of things and offers lots of wonderful services, I feel well taken care of when I've had claims it's all taken care of right away.
If you are an unmarried single male under 25, you are automatically in a very high risk group and will have high premiums, regardless of your personal behavior and activities. |

You're right, you haven't proven to be "high risk". You also haven't proven yet to be "low risk". You are a young male and your insurance will be expensive until you turn 25. Get used to that idea. |

Insurance is partly based on your driving history and age. If you have no or little driving history (years with a license) then they have to assume that you're a bad driver until you prove yourself. Drivers under 25 typically get in more accidents so rates are much higher for 16-25. My rate dropped to almost half the day I turned 25. Also uninsured drivers account for the high price. |

Wrong. Young, single male drivers HAVE been proven to be high risk drivers for decades. keep your driving record spotless, drive an old Chevy Cavalier for a few years and when you hit age 20 your rates will begin to drop -- by age 23 they will plummet to nearly sane numbers. |

eh, how old are you, 17? 17 year olds are a high risk. I think anybody who hasn't gotten past their drinking and partying phase are going to be considered a high risk. |

No, I don't agree. Insurance rates are set by operating costs, and are higher for those found to be a risk to the company. Statistics are used to set risk, and unmarried males under the age of 25 are show to be high risk.
Those with bad credit reports are shown to be high risk.
Those in certain occupations are high risk.
Those with a record of tickets and accidents are high risk. |

The insurance company use accident data. And unmarried male (usually 16 to 25) has accident much higher than others.
so from their point of view, you have to be proven SAFE not proven unsafe.

No accidents or tickets. It makes you be a defensive driver when you don't have any. I've saved a couple thousand. |
