So I had car insurance with alliance and leicester, it was rubbish from the start and i had loads of trouble with it, so they agreed to cancel it from the 13th, i arranged some more insurance and then found that alliance and leicester had took a payment on the 17th! Is this right? I'm going to ring them to ask for it back but wondered if there was something I can say in my favour??? Additional Details I have a letter agreeing to cancel the insurance from the 13th, I have cancelled the direct debit so i wont be paying again

For automobile insurance the obvious way to get a great rate is do a rate comparison on auto policies. Make sure that you pick similar policies with the same deductibles, auto model, location, etc so that all options are a good comparison.
What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have discount insurers and can give multiple quotes on car insurance polices. |

Contact them and ask them to refund the payment. As you have a letter from them agreeing to cancel your insurance you shouldn't have too many problems getting your money back. |

I'd just explain that your no longer recieving their services so they shouldnt of taken money out. If they refuse, or say that you didnt cancel give them evidence that you did. they record all their calls so if you cancelled by phone tell them that they have a recording of it. If they still refuse, I'd tell them that your going to go all legal on them. then talk to a lawyer or somthing. |

Always put it in writing especially where money is concerned. You should have taken the persons name who agreed to the cancellation date, and confirmed the conversation in writing. Phone calls alone are a waste of time as the insurers pay peanuts and get monkeys to talk to you. |

You should be protected under the banking direct debit guarantee system. However I should wait until you get confirmation from A & L as to what they will do.
Sometimes for whatever reason it can take a few days for instructions to be processed and it is possible that A & L requested the money before you cancelled (normally the request goes in a few days before the date of withdrawal) |
