Car insurance question. I have no clue what to do.?

Hi I am 16 years old(almost 17) and I am geting ready to get my license and a car. I live in West Virginia with my mother who doesn't drive, so she doesn't have car insurance. My father who will be paying for everything lives in New York but is under his spouses car insurance due to a not so good driving record. My mother was married to my former step dad who was my only transportation but they just got divorced so my boyfriend is stuck taking me everywhere. Bottom line is I really need a car but I don't know how to get insurance because neither my mom or dad has their own and my dad is not my custodial parent and lives so far away. My friends are saying to get my own insurance but I think that will be sky high considering I'm a beginning driver and I don't even know if places will insure me because of my age as well. Can anyone tell me what I can do to get insured? PLEASE?

You can receive any amount of answers from users but the best and most accurate information will be from a visit or call to the DMV and a call to any car insurance company. Insurance can be pricey especially because of your age, but you can certainly get insurance as long as you have a valid license and a car to insure. A call to many insurance companies can give you a number of quotes in search of a better price. It seems like a lot of money to deal with, but as long as you have a steady job, it is manageable. Also if you drive safely, in time your insurance will come down in price as you decrease in steps.

I've been with Allstate since I was 18 and never felt gouged by their prices. Some companies are definitely more expensive than others (like State Farm), but the benefit is that the payouts on an accident are reputedly higher. Since cost is a factor, be sure to shop around a bit, but don't worry about cost until you find out what it is. Usually it shouldn't be too unreasonable, and if it is, you sound like a very together girl who will be sure to figure something out!! Best of luck to you!!

p.s. If you're able to get liability insurance only (i.e. if you own the car outright) you will save some money each month but then if you're in an accident, your car won't be covered. Upsides and downsides.

ok, seeing as your mom doesnt drive your s.o.l. there, and you dad doesn't have his own policy, so you're s.o.l again! but your friends are right, get your own insurance! and seeing as you have the internet all you gotta do is a lil shopping around online! now i dont have the greatest record but i just signed with UNITRIN DIRECT tonight and they are the cheapest insurance company i have ever had! but just do your own shopping around and see what you come up with! good luck

I would recommend getting in touch with an Insurance Professional in your area. They may have access to several different insurance markets and can find you a rate that fits in your budget. They can work in your best interest to find the coverage you need at a price you can afford. They have to carry errors & omissions coverage (make sure to ask if they have a current policy) that protects you and them if they make a mistake. No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around?
the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great.
this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins.
The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman.

Ask them to do some inquiries as im sure that they could go garentour for you, if not, approach the insurance companies with an offer (just above competative prices) just for 6 to 12 months. you should be ok to try both.
