twice bitten
when the car was stolen it was parked[yes?]not carjacked.so owners policy covers .they don't care who parked it.

if the car is stolen from the property of the insured, then the insurance is valid, however only payable to the insured. And if a police report is not filed, you can be charged, tried and convicted of a grand felony.

Well, the person doing the stealing will be responsible for ALL damages under the law. The car owners insurance might pay to get it fixed to help the policy holder out, but they will in turn go after the person that stole the car.

im not sure to be honest.
well first you need to call the police and report that it has been stolen.
then u need to check out with the insurance company
if they dont ask dont tell them who was driving but if they do you could lie (but probaly best not to...)
sorry not the best advice in the world
hope u get sorted anyway!

the owner reports the car stolen gets a police report contacts the insurance company and then receives a check for the totaled car assuming he had the proper insurance coverage

theft has nothing to do with who uses the car or had possession of the car. it would have been stolen if you used it or your dad used it and he parked it in your yard. of course they will pay for it, but it will take at least 30 days. but the main thing is, does the policy that the car is under cover theft? some policies do not. call the police, report it stolen, then call your insurance company and tell them that it was stolen and give them the police report number. they will tell you specifically waht needs to be done. and DO NOT MENTION anything about who uses it, just tell them the facts.

simply that it was stolen from the owners residence.

I hope so if the father has the insurance that covers the theft, under comprehensive insurance. But depends on the policy.

If it was taken from the parked position. As long as no fraud is committed, by handing over the key to collect the insurance.

Fathers home owner policy or apartment policy may cover it also. Under Loss away from home.

See a lawyer.

It was stolen when not being driven (parked). So don't worry about who uses.

Just call the Police and insurance company quickly.

Good Luck...

U need to call the police!!!

First, I am assuming the vehicle was in your possession when it was stolen. You are an "unlisted" driver, meaning you are not on your father's policy but were using the vehicle (or in this case was the last person to use the vehicle) at the time of the loss. The first thing to know is that insurance follows the car. Secondly, your father's carrier will investigate the unlisted driver coverage issue. They will want to know if how frequently you drive, do you have your own keys, did you have permission to use the vehicle, do you garage the vehicle at your residence. If you borrowed the car to pick up milk and this is a one time thing the coverage issue will clear. If you drive the vehicle daily, have your own keys and keep the vehicle at your house the insurance carrier can take up issue with that. Once that issue is cleared the theft claim will move smoothly. Call the police immediately and file a report. This should have been done as soon as you realized it was gone. Have your father call his insurance company and get the claim reported. Insurance carriers usually wait 30 days to see if the vehicle gets recovered before they settle theft losses. Cooperate with the insurance company. They will need statements from you and your father (since he is the insured) and will most likely request that you both complete affidavits of theft. Additionally, if you are driving the vehicle regularly you need to be on the policy. If your father is just paying for the insurance for you and you are the only driver he can get a policy for you, under your name and have the bill mailed to him at a seperate billing address. That will prevent you from being in the situation in the future. The carrier will have to determine if coverage is confirmed and extended on your loss.

it's all about need to know. the car was stolen and is no longer in your fathers possesion making it theft. The fact that you where driving it and lost it doesn't make a difference. However it is the insurance company and they will do anything to get of of paying the coverage you pay for and almost never ever use.
