so my car was stolen yesterday. i reported to the police immediately. I gave them my tag no. and everything. The insurance that i had, didnt have any coverage for theft autos and stuff. So i'm stuck with not having a car. How likely is it that my car is found?? Because i've totally lost hope on it. the way i see it is, in such a big city, there are millions of cars, and still a lot of stolen cars like me. And what if they just replace the tag with their own tags or change the color of the car (mine was black). what if they just dismantle it and sell it. The chances are almost as winning a lotto or something. have any of u had or heard of any experiences as such and gotten the car back??

In NYC they don't even look for stolen cars. If they happen to stumble on it you may or may not get a call from the cops.
That's after it is in their possession at the impound lot for anywhere from a week to a month. Then you owe the city the towing and storage fees. And any parking tickets received reguardless if they were issued after you reported it stolen. |

Your best bet is to keep calling and calling the police impound yards to see if they have your car.
In Los Angeles, the LAPD does not look for stolen cars. I called to report a car I thought was stolen and the officer wanted to know why. He said he would run the plate if it made me feel better. I told him, yes it would. Well he did and it was stolen. It was a Ford Pickup. It was mostly still in one piece. It would not have been if I would not have called. That is why we should get involved. We citizens could really help each other, even if its just a phone call. |

Slim to none. If it is found chances are it will be stripped and a total loss. Sorry. |

you have no coverage and its one in a million to find it in your city. you probably wont see it again. my neighboors had there '07 dodge durango stolen (it was brand new at the time) and they found it 50 miles away in Detroit completely stripped down to the frame. it was a total loss. but the were covered luckily. they were lucky that they had it even found in that condition. |
