i am buyin a car which has private number plate but i want to change it back to the original plate do i have to pay for it and how much and how do i go about it and can i sell the number plate to someone else

Cost to transfer a no plate is £80 its original reg plate will be issued back to the car however if you have no car to trasfer it to then you will have to put the private plate on a retention cert. £105 you can sell the no. plate then, the car will still get its original plate re issued the retention cert has to be renewed every year (£25) or you will lose the plate you can do a three year cert for (£75) |

The number plate really should be changed by the previous owner as standard, to change it will cost upto £100, and I am not sure about selling it, I would imagine so, hope this helps! GOOD LUCK! |

The car will not have it's original number plate put back on but another registration, starting with the same year.
As for the private number plate, it belongs to the person who is selling the car to you and therefore is not yours to sell.
As for the cost, you have to contact DVLA to get this sorted out. |

contact your local DVLA and if its close pop in with all your doc's they will or should be able to do it there and then. Go mid week and not at the start or the end of the month.
Put the old number on retention and if you want sell it again the DVLA can advice you
