Color of the car for insurance purposes?

Does the color of the car have anything to do w/ the price you pay for your insurance? I have heard that bright colors make your insurance rates higher.

Hi: Thats one of those "old wives tales" that you hear about.
Insurance rates are in no way based on the color of your car.

The color in itself won't affect price.
However If you are insuring against any damage to the paintwork and your paintwork happens to be some special paint (eg some metallic or pearl) that would cost more than normal paint and you specify this when you are buying insurance then it stands to human reason that it'll cost more to insure your car.
(and I somehow hope this isn't what you meant when you asked your question)

I agree with Kizzy,

The insurance company asks for the color of your car because they must list it on your policy. When you decode a VIN it does not always list the color.

Some pigments get higher and cost more to d o a paint job and they would consider that as a factor, like Red is extremly expensive right now, and there are others but other than that it wuld not make much difference. Red Gives the impression of going fast sitting still so they tend to get more tickets so does yellow and other bright colors that stand out that attracts the police's eye.
