There is a 3 lane road near my house. Left lane is left turn only, middle lane is straight on only and right lane is right turn only. These are marked by arrows in each lane.
However recently lots of people in the straight on only lane have been turning left and soon there is going to be a major accident.
Because this road is so close to where I live I use it all of the time and was wondering who would be liable for the accident if a car turning left in the straight on only lane, hit a car in the left turn only lane turning left?

The fault and liability would be on the driver making the left turn in the straight lane. |

It truly depends if the road that they are turning onto is a 1 lane or 2. If it is a one lane, then it would be the party that should have gone straight. if it is 2+ lanes, then it would be up to the officer and claims department. If car A (in the left turn lane) hit car b (in the straight lane) in anything other than the left lane, then it could be seen as him switching lanes and not yielding to traffic. If A was in the left lane and B pulled into him because it is a 1 lane rd, then it would be B's fault. |

Yes, it would likely be held responsible. It sounds like the lanes need better marking, signs or painted arrows or both; tell the street/highway department about this. |
