Could a teenager possibly get car insurance under an adult name

I'm soon to be 18 and I'm afraid of the high insurance bills, could i possibly put the insurance under someone else's name? or would the car have to be under the same name as the insurance?

Even at 18 or over, if you still live at home you can remain on your parent's policy. If you don't live at home, you'll have to bite the bullet and pay the high premiums. |

Regardless of who the car is titled to or who the primary insured person is, YOU need to be listed on the policy to be covered. If you have an adult add your car and you to their insurance coverage the difference they pay MAY be less than separate coverage you could get. Check around both ways.
It's a fact of life teens and early 20's people will pay higher insurance rates.
One way to lower your rates is to drive an older car that's paid for and has a low value. This way you can carry liability only since the cost of repairing/replacing your car will be about the same as your deductible will be. I know, driving a 15-20 year old beater isn't "cool" but it is cheaper. |

This is why I like 18-year-olds...they never think ahead. What happens if you needed to use that insurance? And there must be some legal ramifications to defrauding an insurance company. Oh yeah, it's called insurance fraud!! If you got caught and if the insurance industry would EVER give you insurance after defrauding them, your premiums would be really high - higher even than being caught driving without insurance. Just pay what you have to pay and get used to it. |

Yes. You can be added to your parents current policy. |

It will really depend on the policy that your parents use. When I lived with my parents I got a price break just for sharing an address. |

The name on the insurance has to be the same as the name on the registration documents.
Even if you did register the car to someone else, and put the insurance in their name, you would still have to put yourself on as a driver. Insurers have got wise to younger drivers doing this and as soon as you put yourself on as a driver, it will go up in price significantly.
If you did insure it in someone else's name, most insurers do not give no claim discount to named drivers so it would still be expensive when you do come to insure it in your name.
Insurance for younger drivers is expensive for a reason. That age group make the most claims and put up the costs for all other drivers. Trust me that if there was a loophole meaning younger drivers could get cheap insurance, the insurers would find it and stop it. If you want insurance and you are aged under 25, you are going to have to pay full whack. There simply isn't any other way. |

I'm amazed at how many people want so hard to get out of something. Yes you can do this but as the last person said it is insurance fraud. Insurance companies will prosecute!!!! and frankly they have a right to as these "bright ideas" affect all our rates. Rates aren't high because of accidents and cost of repairs althought it doesn't help, it's high because of fraud.
If you can't afford the insurance don't get a car. take public transpotation!!!!
