Dented My Car. Kinda Lied about it all. Insurance Examiner..what will happen now?
|
Okay so parked my car in an overflow car park, when i was going into it there are these barriers. I stupidly hit one of them and gained a nice big dent on the side of my car. Since it was a new car i lied my *** off to my dad and said i parkedit in the car park and someone had hit it while i was not there. So um, yeh pretty stupid and juvenile of me but i would be dead if i told the truth!
So my dad needs the name of the car park for the insurance company. Will they check CCTV?!!! that's the most important thing that is worrying me..since no car bumped into me!!! What do they do with all the information they ask? Is it just to estimate a price on the damage caused? Helpppp! Additional Details THERE'S NO CCTV! just found outtttt. Thanks for the responses though

VERY VERY unlikely they will check the CCTV.
Unless you trashed a 100000 Porsche etc not worth their bother.
Normally they make a few superficial enquiries, maybe call and grip a bit about how there is no evidence, but ultimatly they will 99% of the time pay out.
Don't worry your not the only one to have done this............
I'm sure you would get 1000's of responses saying the same if people read this.
Good luck and be more careful next time......
for now keep your head down n smile... |

I think you'd be better off telling your dad the truth than being done for insurance fraud. |

Tell your father the truth.
Nearly every car park has CCTV, so you lies are bound to get you in trouble sooner or later.
If you tell your dad that you had caused damage, he can explain that you have caused your own damage on the car, and if you have comprehensive insurance they are more likely to repair it, and you won't get done for insurance fraud! |

Tell your Dad the truth. You are going down the fraudulent claim line and the insurance company will have little sympathy with you, particularly if the car park has a CCTV camera which shows you hit the barrier and make a claim on you for damages. His no claim bonus is knackered anyway because they will not find the car which you say hit you. If you lie they will hit you hard with extra premiums or they may refuse to insure you or your dad again. |

Oh the twisted web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.
Teehee.
Insurance companies don't like to actually pay claims, that's annoying.
They just might investigate and see if they cant locate the "perpetrator" of this dastardly deed, so that their insurance company can pay for instead. But it costs money, so they just might what the information because it is required to record where incidents take place.
If you want to quell your paranoia, or perhaps increase it, call the owners of said car park and say your car might have been vandalized while in the lot and if it is possible that they have some cameras that might ascertain the identity of the "criminal" who did it.
Insurance fraud is a real crime and they have teams of people devoted to seeking it out.
My advice, fess up now. I don't pretend to know your father, but if you just come clean now and take some heat. Your anxiety will be gone.
Sooner the better. You will be dead if your father unearths your little charade on his own and discovers his flesh and blood deceived him and committed insurance fraud. |

The suggestion to call the lot and ask about cameras is good. Maybe they don't have cameras.
Better advice is to tell the truth. To your dad & the insurance adjuster. it doesn't matter if another car hit you , or you hit the bright yellow barrier. (Wasn't the paint color a clue?)
My car was vandalized once, and the adjuster they sent out was a young girl. Even with her limited experience, she could tell what was vandalism, and that the tail light was broken previously. Don't try to fool them. Lies make them suspicious. and the money all comes from the same place, so what does it matter? That's why you have insurance.
Good luck with your Dad. |

I think your dad will get a bill as it sounds like you have nullified his insurance cover. |

If he is Fully Comp come clean they will still get it fixed. Dave |

better fess up. when your dad calls the auto park and files a claim with their insurance company, they most likely will have a video showing you hit the barrier;
most car parks have them due to the excessive amount of claims filed to protect them.
since car new, your dad will most likely have to file under his collision coverage. also, think about how mad your dad will be when he realizes you lied and they deny the claim.
good luck |

most insurance companys try to investagated hit and runs lol. they could get you for insurance fraud. and how big is the dent? is the paint damaged? most time you can have paintless dent repair done and thats about 50 to 75 dollars. hope everything works out for you good luck |

Just tell the truth... your dad only wants the name of the car park and insurance company because it is easier to get the repairs done via their insurance, and he's probably peed off that someone has hit an run from you and he wants revenge!!!!. BUT... because your telling porkies and there IS a good chance you might get caught out (CCTV etc) your dad could probably get your dent sorted out himself, it is fairly straight forward to repair damage like that these days, and its far better than getting done for fraud. |

The appraiser who comes out to see your vehicle will more than likely be able to tell how the damage go there.
What you are doing is called insurance FRAUD. It is a CRIME and insurance companies will prosecute. Not to mention cancel your father's insurance. Let your dad know NOW. Better him find out now rather than being haulded into an attorney's office along with you to find out you lied.
If you can't except the fact that you had an accident and you were at fault you have absolutely no business driving.
I have specifically told my son if you have an accident I will deal with this but if you lie to me about how the accident occurred or the facts of what happened, the accident will be the least of your worries. |
