Desperately need eveyone's help please!?

well the problem is that we had a party at our house and my brother's car keys were on the fireplace. we were serving food and someone took the keys, drove the car(which was not insured as we don't use the car) into city centre, hit someone's car and didn't stop at the scene.we still don't know who was driving as no one is owning up to it.
we had the police round and told them what we know but they are saying that the car's my bro's responsibility and they would checking the cctv cam's around the city centre. we don't know what to do.i would like to know what action can the police take against him.(in uk)

You can understand the police not believing you (though I don't mean that as a slur on you) but I'd call their bluff and tell them to check the CCTV. The car is not your brother's responsibility if someone took the keys, that's just the copers trying it on and complete nonsense. What would they say if someone had done a hook and cane job or nicked the keys from your brother's pocket or something?
If the car has been found tell them to fingerprint it and check the CCTV as you have nothing to hide, but also find a solicitor just in case the coppers try and trun up the heat. I'd seriously doubt there's anything they can do without proof so try not to worry until you've spoken to a solicitor or similar.

Have your brother report that the car was stolen. That the keys were taken from the house without his consent!

well unless they can prove who it was they cant take no action.. as long as your brother has a few wittnesses to were he was at the time that the car got stolen he should be ok...

most probably the cctv cameras might of caught them

dont worry justice will be proven it always does (most of the time)

File the police report that your car was stolen. And report it to your insurance company that the car was stolen.

I would not worry since it is doubtful the police could prove otherwise. The truth will probly come out as time goes on. Someone will admit to it sooner or later.

i don't know why people are making fun out of this.
This person has asked for help if u can't solve their problem then u shouldn't answer.

but he should inform a solicitor just incase the police try it on with him.

1. Report the keys and the vehicle stolen to the insurance company and the police formally and keep the paperwork provided. If this isn't done then the insurance company may choose to charge a higher premium or worse, the owner of the hit car may make a claim against your brother's policy.

2. Request the police view the CCTV footage to support the stolen vehicle report.

3. Tell your brother to try to remain calm and polite even when he feels upset. To get angry doesn't help and may hinder the progress of the case.
