Dial Direct have robbed us?

We asked Dial Direct not to renew our insurance because we were taking out insurance with someone else (they're useless). Despite this, they took the money from our bank account on Thursday. We telephoned the same day and they said they would refund it immediately. We telephoned the next day to make sure and a different person said that they can't refund it until we return the certificate of insurance (we haven't HAD the certificate yet). Obviously we went absolutely mental with them and accused them of theft, but they are still saying that it could take up to 2 weeks to refund the money.
We have no money in our bank at all and desperately need it back (we can't afford any food for the weekend). What is the most effective threat I can give to get it back.

Lol Ron. I paid the window cleaner before Dial Direct robbed me, so I've been robbed twice in one week! Just typical.

Report it as Theft at the local Police Station - these cretins think they can get away with murder - also tell them that you will charge them interest at 50% per day if they do not refund immediately - there is NO REASON why this cannot be done immediately - it is done via machine and is instant!

Incidentally, maybe you should not have paid your window cleaner Â£100 up front if you were short of cash.

Well...if you are relying on a refund for food money you may be out of luck.Usually credits take a few days to process even if the company is cooperative.Good luck, though.

tell them you will contact the financial services ombudsman. Look here first they might have some useful advise!

I would contact your local trading standards and ask them to deal with it for you.

try 'consumer direct' get the number off the internet its 0800 and run by the courts system to give adice on what to do, they are very helpful and its free

say to them that you are goen to get a serliciter or go to citenze advice burow or tell them that you have kids and you are on low income and cant afford to put food in there bellys that can work some time depends if you get some on from the uk

If this was an improper direct debit your bank is responsible for getting the money back. If you go overdrawn then the interest &c should be paid by Dial Direct as well

Call them again and again and tell them that you want your money back, tell them that your lawyer will be contacting them. Most people don't like the thought of having to deal with a lawyer, it tends to ruin their entire day. Also tell them that you are filing charges on them for fraud. I hope that this helps you.

Don't get me started on Dial Direct insurance, please, please never use this company once they have your credit card detials they will rob you and they have it all in the small print. I have only been with them for two months and I have never been so frustrated. I'm in the process of tring to cancel my card get my money back and cutting all ties I have with them. Do not deal with Dial Direct.
