Ok, well i just got my liscense [ i`m 16 ] ... i don't have a car, so do i need car insurance? i don't know if this is a dumb question, but people are telling me i need to be added to my mom's insurance and stuff. i`m trying to under stnad the whole car insurance thing so hopefully somebody can help.

sorry but the answer is YES..the insurance co KNOWS that u will drive moms car.She has to declare ALL licinced drivers living in her household... believe it..

If you aren't going to drive, then you don't need insurance. If you want to drive your mother's car (if she'll let you), then your mother can add you to her policy or you can buy non-owner liability insurance for those rare occasions where you might drive your mother's car or a car belonging to someone else. Check with an insurance agent. |

Well, since ur 16 and all...you don't need car insurance if you don't have a car (makes sense, right? like you don't need a barn if you don't have a horse). At the same time, if you think that you will be driving your mother's car, then you should be added to her policy in order to be covered. It's when you get your own car is when you'll need your own insurance...be sure to save your $$$, cause it'll be expensive.

If your mother adds you to her insurance as a named driver that means as long as you meet the legal requirements you can drive her car.
You do not need your own insurance until you get your own car.
If you have just got your licence at 16 Unless it is Group P Moped only you cannot be in U.K AS minimum here for Car is 17.
I believe you can even get your own car and get that added to your mums insurance, but you need to talk to mum as you cannot add to her insurance and she should know what her policy covers and what can be added to it.

Will you be driving your mother's car? Unless her insurance covers ALL LICENSED DRIVERS then you have to be added to her insurance to be covered. Even if her insurance covered all licensed drivers then you actually should be added. |
