Do I have to keep my car's proof of insurance in my car?
|
or can I keep it in my wallet, which is always with me, since it's been stolen out of my car twice?

As long as you can provide the proof if you are pulled over, it doesn't matter where it is kept. It's odd that someone would steal your proof of insurance, they can't use it for their car. Anyway, happy cruising! |

Keep the information in your wallet and in your car. Our insurance company sends two copies of the information - if your company does not, go somewhere and make a copy. |

Hmm...good question. As far as I know, it can't hurt anything if you keep it in your wallet, but just make sure your WALLET doesn't get stolen. Usually, police officers frown on you pulling things out of your pockets...it becomes a hazard for them, and they don't always know what you're going for. |

all u have to do is keep your insurance card with you. but you do need to keep your car regestration with you. |

I do. The only time you really need it is if you are involved in an accident or if you are stopped by a law enforcement officer. I suppose a copy would also be valid. |

Yes just the card not the entire policy. |

It has to be in the car with you when you are driving, it does not have to be in the car when it is parked. Just like registration, you have to show it if pulled over for an infraction or a spot check. If you leave your insurance and registration in your vehicle, and the vehicle is stolen, it is embarassing to tell the police officer you don't know the serial number of the stolen car. Don't laugh, I have had a number of people call our insurance office for that information, telling me the cards were in the car when it was stolen. |

If you are the only person who drives your car, the wallet will be fine. Just don't forget your wallet... |

I think the person who recommended making a copy was on the right track. Make a couple of copies. One for the glove box, one on a visor.
Keep the original in your wallet. |

You must (at least in California) have proof of insurance upon being asked by a police officer. Whether you carry it in your wallet, or lock it in your glovebox, you must have proof of insurance in your vehicle upon a traffic stop. I carry one in my wallet, so I have proof of insurance for whatever vehcile I happen to be driving, and I have a copy locked in my glovebox as well, along with a copy of my registration for the vehicle. it's a habit for me to lock and unlock the glovebox upon entering and exiting my vehicle. |

you should always keep it on hand in case you get pulled over for any reason at all, or get in a car accident, i suggest keeping it hidden under the seat so no one can steal it. |

Carol honey.. that's a NO BRAINER.
Keep it with YOU.
I've had my car stolen in the past with my wallet inside. They used my credit cards to put gas, and to order clothes from an Italian Clothing Men's store.
Just don't forget it incase you're pulled over.. but that's obvious. Here in Florida you need to show:
1. Licence
2. Proof of Insurance
3. Registration
... for a routine traffic stop by an officer.
Good Luck.

It says 'proof of insurance has to be in the vehicle'. If you and your wallet are in the vehicle, then the proof of insurance is, too. |

yes carol b you are required to keep your insurancecard in your automobile at all times as it has to be shown when for when ever a law enforcement agent asks to see it or in case of and accident you have to show proof of insurance |
