Do I have to pay the deductible if the car accident I was involved in was in a work truck while on the clock?
Find answers to your legal question.

Do I have to pay the deductible if the car accident I was involved in was in a work truck while on the clock?

About a week ago I accidentally rear ended someone in the company I work for's work truck while I was on the clock. I was just wondering if I have to pay the deductible for the car insurance? Some people have told me that the company should pay the deductible, others say they aren't necessarily liable to pay and it comes down to whatever the company policy is... So does anyone know for sure which way it is?

Also, I work for a small sprinkler company, I meant to put this initially...

When I was going to go work driving semi for this one company, they wanted me to sign a paper saying if I were involved in an accident that I was found to be over 50% at fault, I would have to pay the deductible.

The only one who could give you a definite answer would be your boss.

When it comes down to it... insurance follows the owner of a vehicle.. not the driver. Therefore- they are responsible for their insurance deductible.

However, in most cases if the driver is at fault..paying the deductible is the nice thing for them to do.

In your case though, your work requires that you travel for the job. When they hired you and knew youd be driving their work truck all day it was a risk they took knowing that you could potentially be in an accident. In this case... as they put you in the position to be driving.. i feel they are solely responsiblef or the deductible- if you choose to pay them for it.. well that just makes you an nice person.. you dont have to legally.

Your employer should have to pay this. But I dont know what kind of agreement you have with your employer.

This would depend on the company you work for. If they pay the deductable they can write it off as a business expence. If you pay if you may be able to write it off as a work related expence. If it comes to them asking you to pay it I would work something out with them, do remember that since you were at fault their rates will increase as well.

There is no rule of thumb here; it's up to the company. That said, most companies will require you to pay the deductible in this situation.

Look at it from this perspective: you loan your personal car to a friend and he gets into an accident that is his fault. Will you pay the deductible gladly or will you demand that the friend pay it?

Depends on your agreement with the company,if you have a good boss & this is a one off case he might, but you were driving & it was your fault so you should pay,

It should be on the company. The have the insurance on each vehicle, so they will need to pay the insurance part, unfortunately you will be responsible for the ticket and will have to pay that.

I have never heard of a company that would expect you to pay in this case, they are the ones who own the truck and bought the policy.
