Do I lose my identity with an Expired Learner's Permit?

My learner's permit expired a few days ago. I was wondering if I do not re-new it for a while because money is a little tight and I can't afford to pay the fees can I get in trouble having an expired permit?

You can only get into trouble if you attempt to drive on an expired permit.
You are, however, not required to have a permit if you do not intend to use it to learn to drive.
In the U.S. you are not legally required to possess an ID. Also, a permit is not a valid form of ID.
And you can never lose your identity so long as you have a birth certificate and/or two or more people with two or more valid forms of ID can both attest to your identity. |

Depends on where you are, and the rules for your location. Some places you start over at the beginning, taking the tests and paying the fees. Other places you can renew if it's expired less than 30 days, so just go to the web page for your DMV and find out, or call and ask.
No, you won't get in trouble as long as you don't drive until you renew it. |
