Do I need to have this in NH...?

I am getting a car that is older than 10 years old. It is either 10 or 11. Anyways, do I need insurance on it if it is that old? Someone told me that if it is over 10, in NH they don't require you to have insurance, but I don't know if this is true. I am 17 years old, a girl, and I have had my license for a year and have never had a ticket or been stopped. If I did need insurance, would these factors lower the price?

New Hampshire has no insurance requirement, so you can legally drive without insurance.

However, you should still get liability insurance, no matter the age of the car. Liability covers the other person if you cause an accident. Without it they can sue you - and your parents since you're a minor - for damages.

Having a good driving record will help make your insurance cheaper, as well as being a girl. If you have over a 3.0 GPA, that will help as most insurance companies give out "good student" discounts.

New Hampshire is one of the few US states that do not require auto. insurance. BUT.... You would be foolish not to buy at least liability insurance for any car, regardless of its age. As for any more insurance protection, that would depend on whether you could afford or want to afford to lose the vehicle if it wasn't insured with collision and/or Comprehensive.

OK...so I live in NH as well!! In NH as long as the vehicle is paid for in full if it's 10 or 11 years old I would say you don't have payments..LOL You do not need insurance, although it would be a good idea to have at least liability insurance in case someone hits you or it's snowy and you hit someone knock on wood this doesn't happen, but it is very possible!! Liability shouldn't cost too much, but here's a good example my husband had liability on his vehicle and I forgot how much we paid, but this past winter we got into an accident and the guy even though we hit him it was his fault, but at least we were covered if your not covered some what it can cause bigger problems than expected!! Try going to answer financial.com I'm pretty sure that's the website they shop around a bunch of insurance companies to get you the best rate and if your under 18 maybe your parents can get it in there name and just put you as a driver, so this way your covered!! Also, remember too depending on where you live in NH really makes a difference too like if you live in a big city or a little town etc.. I live in somersworth..Good luck
