Do I need to make a claim for my car insurance even if I don't have damage?

I got into a minor fender bender with another car and they are choosing to pursue insurance means to fix their rear bumper. However, my car has no needed damage repair, so do I still need to make a claim, or will their insurance company basically contact mine and do it for me? I just want to make sure my rates don't go up and I know the more claims you have the more it goes up. Thanks

You have to report all accidents per your policy contract. If you don't you risk them disclaiming coverage against you for failuer to comply with the contract. There are a few times when you do not have to report an accident. They include, but are not limited to:
1. you were involved in a single car accident, no one was hurt, there was no other damaged property, and you have no collision coverage.
2. your vehicle was stolen but you have no comprehensive coverage.
3. A comprehensive loss occurred and you don't have that coverage.
Everything else needs to be reported. |

If they make a claim, your rates will go up, whether you report it or not. The best thing to have done, if it is minor, is to pay for it without them reporting it. If it is a couple hundred, it is less expensive than raised rates for a few years. |

If you don't wanna go through insurance. Ask the guy to get some estimates and just pay the bill. Otherwise, your insurance probably still will go up. Depends on the incident though. If there was a police report the insurance company will decide who is at fault. Alot of drama...I suggest just to pay to fix his car. |

If the accident was your fault, and the other people are going to contact your insurance, you should let your company know about it. |

Whose fault was it?
If theirs, make a claim on THEIR insurance & get your car fixed on their dime. If YOURS, get THEIRS fixed, but do not claim your minor damage. Most LIKELY...
Your co. will jack up the rates, and drop you after 2 claims. |

Yes, it would be better for you to contact your insurance company first. That way they dont get surprised with a claim against you, and possibly cancel your insurance. Do NOT admit fault, even if you where at fault. If the police where not informed and present at the seen of the accident then no. With out a police report, you can deny the accident ever happened to your insurance company. |

After an accident, even if the damages are minimal, it's best to report it to your insurance company. If no police were involved make sure to let them know police were not involved and it is unclear whos at fault, unless its obviously you. If the other driver along with you felt it was a unnecessary claim then make sure he doesn't get any of your information. Only fork it over if the other driver just wants a assurance of letting you go will not turn a case around for him. |
