If he has his permit, no. If he has his license, yes! But if he has just gotten his permit see if you can add him to your policy as a "non-driver" or "permitted driver". All this will do is cover him while he's learning to drive your car. But it's not required for your insurance to be notified if he does not have a valid license |

Yes, you definitely want to notify your insurance company. It will depend on your carrier whether he will need to be added to the policy as a "permitted driver" or not. Most companies will only add him to the policy once he is licensed. |

A phone call would be cheaper than finding out later that he isn't covered. My insurance (by choice) does not allow anyone under 25 to operate my vehicles. |

I'm not really sure, so I suggest you give your ins. agency a call to verify it. - My main concern would be, if your son was to get into an accident (even if it's minor, like hitting a mailbox), would ins. cover it? (You may need to consider putting your child on the policy.) |
