I'm using my parents' car and they already have insurance for it. Do I still need to have my personal one even though my parents already have one for it?
sounds kind of a rip-off for me.

The car needs to be insured, which it already is.
Each driver who lives in the household also needs to be on the insurance policy. Your parents have the option of adding you to their policy or specifically excluding you. Every person of driving age NEEDS to be listed on the policy as included or excluded.
Now, they'll need to add you as a driver on the policy. If they don't and you get into an accident, the company has legal grounds to not pay the claim.
If you don't live with them, you can drive it without risking anything.
Also, HouseMom is wrong. You can't have one car double insured. It is against the law. You either need to take control of the insurance and put it in your name (not likely since it sounds like it's their car) or your parents need to add you to their policy. The insurance company should be able to tell you what the price difference is to add you to the policy & your parents can have you pay that amount. |

Of course you need insurance, usually the cheapest way is to be put on your parents plan.
If you don't have insurance & wreck your parents car, you will be an uninsured driver, & your parents could get sued!!! |

Your parents can add you to their policy - that way you'd be covered. Or you could get your own at the bare minimum coverage if they want you to, so that you'd pay for it yourself. But you definitely need to be added to their policy, which will probably cost more to them because you're a new driver; but then you'd be covered. If you're not added, you're not covered, and should something happen while you're driving, they are at fault. |
