Do I still have to pay a ticket on an out of state license, that's expired and I no longer use?

I am switching to a new state license and I just got a ticket today, once the license is switched do I still have to pay? Additional Details I don't want to hear about breaking the law and paying...we all know the price tag on many of these tickets are crazy.
I have asthma and at the time I was attempting to back track to my house while I was having an asthma attack to get my inhaler that I forgot, so it was not a deliberate attempt to be reckless--contrary to popular opinion.

This isn't brain surgery. You got a ticket, so you either pay it, or contest it in court. If you don't do either of those things it will go to warrant. Then the next time you have an "encounter" with the police the warrant will pop up, and you'll be arrested for the outstanding warrant. It's just that simple. |

Yes!...Yes you do. You made a mistake, doesn't matter WHERE you made it. You are still RESPONSIBLE. Right?
If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime.
Man up, Dude! |

Yes, you still have to pay the ticket. The old license will be linked to you permanently. It was a valid license when you were violated the law and were ticketed, the fact that you are getting a license from a different state doesn't negate that responsibility. |

Yes you do.
No matter what, you owe for the ticket. If you don't pay they can suspend your license no matter what state you are licensed with until you pay the fine, and then you will owe two to three times as much compared to just paying it now. |

Depending on where you are going you will have to pay the ticket in the old state before you can even get a license in the new state. So pay the ticket and be done with it. |

Yes you do. Whatever State you're going to is supposed to check the status of the license of the State that you're coming from to see whether or not you're suspended or revoked. They're not supposed to issue their State's license until you clear up the issues on the previous State's. This is to prevent individuals from racking up suspensions in 1 State and then going to another State and getting a brand new & clean license.
However, if you don't turn in the previous State's license and just act as if this is the 1st time you're getting a license they probably won't check. The only drawback is that you'd have to redo the driving test all over again as opposed to getting reciprocity.
Furthermore, if you don't pay the ticket in the previous State, you can still be suspended in that State. This means that if you ever went back into that State and got caught for a traffic infraction and the cop checked your name in that State you could be arrested.
Happens in NY all the time. |
