I am trying to sell my car but Im leaving the country tomorrow so I want to do a POA for my Gf so i can sell it?
Can I do that at a notary office? and if I can how is that done? and how much would it cost?

Sure you can do it at your bank. You can call and ask how much it will cost to get it done. They can even help you word the power of attorney too! |

You don't need a POA for someone else to sell your car. All you need to do is sign the front of your cars TITLE. Once you sign it, the title is ready for any buyer to sign the back, buyer turns it in to DMV or AAA auto club, so a new title can be created by the State for the new owner. A notary doesn't do legal work. A notary just notarizes your signature. If you write a statement, saying your gf has your permission to sell your car you can sign the statement in front of a notary. The AAA has notaries. A notarized signature costs $10. but again, your gf doesn't need a permission slip to sell your car for you, she just needs your SIGNED TITLE. If the car is older than 5 years, it needs to be smogged. The new owner can smog it, but it's actually sellers responsibility. Will it pass smog test?
One last thing: is it a clean title? In other words, do you have a loan on it? Does the front of your title show a lenders name? if it does, but it's paid off...you still need to show the lender has been paid by contacting them for proof of payoff. |
