Do i have to insure a car to tow it?

i wish to get a car to work on for a family member's birthday so i dont want to pay out to insure it when it will be off the road for a while. but can i legally tow it home?
Additional Details
i wish to tow it home myself for about 10 miles, can i do this on fully comp insurance when the towed car isn't insured?

you can tow it and or drive it you will be covered under most policies for about 30 days after any vehicle purchase

you should of indicated if you were gonna tow it yourself. cause if you use a tow company they have insurance.that thought would have never crossed my mind and the car would be at home already

Good question. I've done this and there is no easy coverage but my agent told me he would cover me. He said if something happened on the way home, I would quickly have to buy a policy. What he did for me was not legit, but since I am a good customer, he "took care of me". Call your company and ask.

The best way to know would be to ring up the insurance company for the vehicle which you are using to tow this vehicle and ask them if it is covered. It will depend on your insurance policy.

Does it have a current tag on it? The answer is that it should be insured if you are going to tow it yourself. If you get a tow company, it will fall under the umbrella of their coverage. If it has a current tag on it you can take a chance on towing it yourself. As long as the tag is current the police should not stop you. If you tow it on a flat bed trailer it does not have to be insured. It would have to be insured to tow behind another vehicle.
