Wait a sec...did you insure a car you don't own? Why would you want to do that? If it's because the real owner is a bad insurance risk that's fraud. Call the company and cancel the policy. |

You cannot insure a vehicle you dont own. If that vehicle gets in an accident - your claim will be denied and the owner will be left with a car that is broken and no money to repair it. The owner will also be responsible personally for any injuries caused in the accident as well as the other parties damges.
You will be committing insurance fraud and that is a legal issue as well.

You cannot insure a vehicle that you do not have a primary interest in. For example, if the car was stolen or totalled, who suffers the loss? The owner of the vehicle, not you. You can be added to the policy of someone who owns the vehicle, but you wouldn't be the primary insured driver. |

Some companies will let you insure a vehicle that you don't own but are a primary driver of. Call the company that you are insured with and check it out. Most companies will not let you insure a vehicle you do not own. Progressive is one company that will let you insure a vehicle that you do not own |

That's an interesting question, and I'm sure the events leading up to it are fascinating, but the short answer is no, generally you can't insure a vehicle you don't own.
Insurance companies like to tie their policies to specific vehicles, and the vehicles to specific owner entities. There may be exceptions, but that's the general rule.
I suggest you make sure the insurance company understands who actually owns the vehicle.
I would love to have a personal car insurance policy that covers me and whatever vehicle I'm driving, whether I own it or not (like motor club coverage), but it's not offered in this state. |
