Hi, i'm in san diego california and last year i was park on the street in front of the house that i use to rent and my car was town, The only signs on the street are the ones for street cleaning. I did not want to pick up my car so i went to the dmv to sing my car to the towing company, and now almost a year later the company i've received a collection bill saying that my car was auctioned and that i still need to pay the difference with the fees. I want to know if that is right, because i though that by doing that i wasn't going to have to pay any gees.

Yes you are responsible for any fees that were not satisfied from the auction of the car. |

You had a bill for towing and storage. Signing the car over to the towing company allowed the storage ($15 to $25 daily, not $300) to stop. Once they finally offered the car for sale at auction, and it sold, that amount was deducted from your bill. The remainder is yours to pay. No, giving them the car doesn't pay for the costs. If you thought the car was worth the amount of the tow bill, you should have paid the bill, and then sold the car yourself. And generally it doesn't go to collections unless you have ignored bills the tow company sent you. |
