The reason behind this question is not clear. However, if you have a contract with an insurance company, then that contract will be valid only when they have received a signed proposal form, and the payment for the insurance.
Once they have that form and your money, you will find it difficult not to pay any cancellation fee, since they will simply not refund the money to you.
If you have not signed the form, then there is no contract. |

Insurance is actually a contract between you and the company; you agree to do certain things--pay the premium, report accidents & new drivers--and the company agrees to protect you. When you sign the application, you agree to this; if you don't sign, you don't agree and there is no contract. The way you asked the question, though, makes it hard to answer definitely. |

If you have paid some money, perhaps some or a monthly instalment then a contract exists and you can be made to honour it.
If you benefited from the cover, even for a short time then you have to pay and pay the cancellation fee.
If you try to avoid paying for something you have had benefit of then they may call the police as you might be just doing this to get a tax disc and then driving around with no cover.
If you fail to pay and have benefited from some cover they will almost certainly put a marker on you on the insurance database to tell others that you may not be reliable.
A verbal agreement is still binding - they may have recorded your call when you set the cover up. |

You sign a proposal which has your facts on it and that is the basis of the contract when you pay the premium. No sig, no insurance. Simple isn't it? |
