Do the police ask for insurance details if you're caught speeding?

Police officers won't get into details on who's on the policy, and exactly what coverages are on there. All they want to see is if that you have an insurance card for that vehicle. They won't know if your sister is on the policy or not unless she tells them, or they make the effort to call the insurance company. Police officers won't make the effort to call the insurance companies. They don't have time for that, and they go by the assumption that an insurance card is suffice.

In all my years working in insurance, not once have I heard an officer actually go into details on an insurance policy. Maybe the gentleman above me can answer that question for you.

Ok if you dob your sister in, she will likely get a large fine & points for driving with no insurance on top of the fact that she was speeding. So all in all not good. Her insurance premiums would go up by quite an amount also.

If however you said that it was you, you would get a fine & a few points.
Assuming that is you don't already have points yourself. Your insurance will go up too if you take the blame.

They can - but it's not required.

As a Police Officer, I used to ask for insurance cards at every traffic stop (not just speeding). I've since stopped as many individuals don't have the card on them, or they've misplaced it, or they're simply borrowing the car and don't have it. Besides which, when I "run" the plate in the computer, if there's a problem it will show.

Insurance cards are only mandatory when: 1) you've been involved in an accident or 2) they are requested.

Depending on your sisters age, many insurance companies will cover other adult drivers of your vehicle.... Even if they are not listed on your policy.

Being honest is most likely the best but I am not sure what your laws are so if you just have to pay a fine and she gets her license suspended for a tiny bit then I would do that otherwise your word won't be good in a future situation if one arises

if she was driving they will need proof that she has insurance. I wouldn't take the blame at all unless she is willing to pay you the money for the ticket or possibles tickets (if the ticket you for not having care insurance). They can tell who is driving the car if the photos taken was a fron shot of the car.

Most of the time your insurance will cover your sister driving your car... Insurance companies, most the time, insure the vehicle, not just the person on the policy. Either way, since she was driving your car, there is a chance that your insurance might go up...
