Do you agree with emissions testing for licensing a vehicle?

Spot!
No. Most vehicles today are much, much more clean than when emissions testing rules started going into place 20 years ago. For the most part today, it's a hassle or, worse, a scam. I'd favor emissions testing for vehicles over eight years old. But I'd also exempt noncommercial vehicles that are older than 30 years old as classics. There aren't enough of them to worry about .

If the program is done properly it should be ok. Old cars have less strict standards, and people can get a waiver for things that can’t be fixed. It’s supposed to get the vehicles that could pass into compliance if all it takes is proper maintenance. Lots of cars fail because they need an air filter or a tune up. Yes, it’s annoying, but so is breathing dangerous air. I remember before emissions testing, with way fewer cars, we had tons of code red air quality days here in the DC area each summer.

No, and I've never had to have it done. I live in a very beautiful rural setting. When I was a lad, we hardly saw another automobile besides ours, and all our not so close neighbors and our family all are healthy, still. I'm 53 and the youngest of 8 children.

only for old vehicles, not for the brand new ones

I agree with the concept. Unfortunately, states and companiees have turned it into a big profit item by specifying the use of specific expensive equipment and allowing service stations to charge too much money.

In PA service stations ALWAYS find something wrong that, shocker, they can fix for a small fee.

Now adays, Yes.. Look at all the smog we have, but I do think it should be for ALL GAS ENGS., including lawn stuff...ROB

I sure do, they still do it in MD and some parts of FL, it is not good to be sitting behind a person whose car is spitting out black or white smoke which will make me and others sick. People should be taking care of their cars.

Only for older vehicles.

Newer model cars, unless there's something broken, do not come close to the unsafe levels of emissions they're looking for when they test. When a 2 year old car has to be tested, it's simply a matter of revenue. The state makes obscene profit on emissions testing.

Yes. Emission testing helps insure a vehicle is maintained on a reasonable basis.
