yes you do. for the first part it is all theory, but you actually do get to practice driving.

Yes, everyone in the car drives and the teacher has the ability to use brakes on his side of the car if it becomes necessary. Before you get to the car part, I do believe there is a classroom part.

Yes, it depends from school to school but at ours I am currently inrolled. We had 6 weeks of class room work then the rest is driving.

yes you drive a certain amount of hours with the instuctor and some hours are spend in a class room

Yeah. Driving in drivers ed. is the main part of it.

they have a written test which you take first if you fail it you cant take it until another 3 months and if you pass it you can take the driving test 3 months after if you pass drivers ed you get your license all you need is the car now

Yes. I have taken drivers ed. At the beginning you will not start out driving. First you will go through safety precautions. Then after learning a bit more you will start driving. Good luck if you take it. It does help though!

I'm guessing it probably depends on what state you live in. I know when I took it here in Michigan, driving with an instructor was part of the class. I think your best bet would be to just google your states drivers ed classes to find out :DD
