Do you have to be insured before you get your license
Find answers to your legal question.

Do you have to be insured before you get your license

I live in South Carolina by the way and have looked on the DMV website and didn't see the answer to it. Both of the cars have a liability policy right now b/c they're both paid off. the policies are under my finance's name.

You just have to have at least liability insurance on the car that you will be driving when you take the test. You cannot be listed on the policy since you are not yet licensed.

After you get your license you will need to get rated on a car in the household... the car that you will be driving is the car you should be rated on once you get your license.

GOOD LUCK!!

Please see the list below and the source for my answer:

Requirements
South Carolina provides an extensive list of identification requirements needed to obtain your license. Although the list is long, the state basically requires you to prove your citizenship/identity, your Social Security number and your residency in the state and you can do so with only one or two documents from each section on the list. If your name has changed since birth, you are required to provide documentation showing why your name was changed.

Liability insurance is required in South Carolina, so you will need to bring your proof of insurance with you to apply.

You can print out and complete an application, available online using the free Adobe Reader, then take it, along with the required documentation and appropriate fees, to your local driver's license office.

I'm not sure, but common sense tells me that you shouldn't have to own a car to get a driver's license, but I think the opposite would be true.

No you do not have to be insured before you get your license.
You do need to make sure you are covered on an insurance policy before you drive

no1JT
You don't need insurance to obtain a drivers licance. You only need insurance to drive a vehical.

JustChillin
No, but during the test the car must be insured

No, you don't need to have insurance to get a drivers license. If you live at the address where the vehicles you will be driving are insured at, you MUST be named on the Insurance Policy (s).

Invisigoth
You do not need to be insured to get your driver's license, but you do need to be insured to get your car tags (the license plates).

it would probably be a good idea for your fiancee to add you to the policy if you are driving either of the cars on a regular basis.

k, the way it works, is let's say you're using your mom's car, well you can't be insured cause you don't have a license, so the way it works is your mom (if she doesn't already have it) then she has to get full coverage, and once that happens anyone is able to drive the car. well good luck.

no you do not have to get insurance before you get your license. but depending on what car you will be driving you will have to call your insurance company and get added to the policy before you can legally drive it.
you still can take the drivers test in one of the cars w/out already being added to the policy though.
good luck :)
