Yes. You need insurance (and MOT if your vehicle needs one) before you can renew your car tax. You can't have one without the other. If you're not insured, you are a criminal. FACT. |

Yes & you need a valid MOT certificate. I tax mine online and they do an automatic check using your car registration number to verify that it is insured and MOT'd.
The other way is to go to the post office and if you do they will not tax your car until you provide the actual insurance certificate (quotes, cover notes, renewal notices etc are not accepted) & a valid MOT certificate.
Check out the dvla website for more info www.dvla.gov.uk |

Yes you do, if your not going to be driving the car but need to have it taxed you can purchase day insurance that will cover the car for 24hours so you can go to get it taxed and not have to take out a 12 month policy - this costs about £10. |

YES - you MUST produce a insurance document (some Post Offices will ONLY accept the full policy and NOT a cover note) when taxing a car and a valid MOT Certificate. |
